Subject: Raven Underground Coal Mine
Dear Mr. Prentice,
I am very concerned about the possibility of significant adverse effects from the proposed Raven Coal Mine. Such effects include water contamination, health impacts, acid mine drainage, dust and noise pollution, climate change impacts, risk to aquaculture and fisheries, risk of highway accidents and loss of eco friendly tourist dollars.
To ensure that a rigorous study is done to rule out such effects, I respectfully request the following:
*that you refer the environmental assessment of Compliance Coal Corporation's proposal to a joint federal/provincial independent expert Review Panel for full public hearings (CEAR reference # 10-03-55529)
*that you ensure that this assessment is carried out by the same joint federal/provincial independent expert Review Panel conducting full public hearings
*that before any further consideration is given to this proposed project, comprehensive aquifer mapping and modeling of the entire Raven coal tenure be completed and publicly vetted.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours truly,
Catharine McLean
