Coal mine is upsetting

Greg Wood, Letters, August 18, 2010

I have lived in Fanny Bay my whole life and this coal mine is extremely upsetting to my way of life and my children's life. My community's water quality, basically everything that is precious to me, the little jewel from Deep Bay to Union Bay is a precious place.

I have struggled to make a living here because the environment is so beautiful and I was willing to sacrifice anything to live here. Now I am forced to fight political leaders and coal companies which seems ludicrous that I would ever need to do so, just to keep my way of life from being degraded.

Fanny Bay is known for its beauty and its clean waters, who would have thought that the government would even consider ruining this precious resource? Many jobs are at stake that are sustainable and are ready to grow forward. Scallops grow here, water bottling plants are here, oysters, clams, geoducks, herring fisheries, this is already an established community that deserves protection form the pollution that would be created from a coal mine in the area.

On the way into Deep Bay the sign reads "naturally beautiful"; let's all work together to keep it naturally great.
