Denman Opposes Coal (DOC) served up cake instead of coal at the Denman Saturday Market on August 14th. A double chocolate zucchini cake with the inscription “Eat Cake, Not Coal!” brought attention to the proposed Raven Coal Mine.

“The mine will be directly across Baynes Sound from Denman Island so we have many concerns about the proposal. We thought to sweeten up what is a very serious issue with a bit of cake,” said Patti Willis who was staffing the DOC information table.

The group distributed flyers with information on how the public can comment on in the early stages of the project’s  Federal Environment Assessment by going to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency website (www.ceaa‐acee.gc.ca) or getting information from www.coalwatch.ca and submitting comments to Raven@ceaa‐acee.gc.ca. Deadline for comments is September 20th.
