Freddy Wood Theatre, UBC, Nov 25 - Dec 4

Jade in the Coal

The plot of Jade in the Coal revolves around the arrival of a Cantonese opera troupe from China who are to inaugurate Cumberland’s new theatre with a performance for the Chinese coal miners. On opening day, the lead actor tours the mine and returns possessed by the ghosts of miners who had died in an explosion the year before. Chaotic efforts ensue to revive and exorcise him, leading to a story of love, betrayal, and racial relations.
