Coal company needs to pay for truck route

Selkirk McPhail, Alberni Valley Times, January 06, 2012

Most of us will agree that the truck traffic problem in Port Alberni is not new.

Ironically, now that Raven Coal is looming closer on the horizon, the movers and shakers are doing just that - moving and shaking.

I was told a few years back, by city administration, that Port Alberni will never see a truck route.

My biggest question now is, how much money is Raven Coal putting into this truck route idea?

Like the flower girl throwing rose petals down the aisle before the bride, are we expected to provide free access to a corporation that will not contribute one dime to the costs of building and maintaining such a road.

Maybe a toll should be applied?

It may well be that we have no say on whether or not Raven Coal gets the go ahead and it is up to Christy Clark and the feds, but we have some say about the route and its costs.
